ESD National Transportation Week 5th Grade
Poster Contest Winners
Michigan 5th graders were invited to celebrate National Transportation Week (NTW) by participating in the ESD 2009 NTW Poster Contest. Jeanna Yu, a 5th grade student at Costello Elementary School in Troy was awarded the first-place honor. The second place winner is Jack Sweeney of St. John Lutheran School in Rochester. The third-place winner is Abbey Meissner, another student from St. John’s.
Since 1962 when President John F. Kennedy declared a permanent date, the nation has set aside the third week of May to honor those who contribute to our nation’s transportation systems and to highlight the achievements they have made. The contest is one way to help spark kids’ interest in transportation by encouraging them to think about the importance of transportation on their lives and to consider a career in transportation. Entries were judged on their simplicity and clear interpretation of the theme: “One Nation on the Move.”
