The Greater
Detroit Chapter of the American Society of Safety
Engineers (ASSE) has launched their new Web
site. ESD designed, maintains and hosts

its condolences and its support to the victims of Hurricane
Katrina. We have donated diapers and baby
formula to the relief effort. Here are other ways our
Members are helping: donating to the Red
Cross or the NAACP
Disaster Relief Fund; offering shelter
at Hurricane
Housing or Katrina
Housing; working with FEMA to
provide support.

Workshop on February 15 at the Southfield Town Center.

Jim
Padilla has been elected President and a director
of the Board of Ford Motor Company, effective February
1, 2005. Mr. Padilla joined ESD in 1978 and two years
later, in 1980, was honored as ESD's Outstanding Young
Engineer of the Year (read
the article in PDF format).

Ann
Fletcher, FESD, received The Officer's
Cross for Meritorious Service to the Republic of Poland.
In addition to being the first woman honored as an ESD
Fellow, Mrs. Fletcher was the first woman appointed
to the ESD Board of Directors and the first woman to
hold the position of Chair of the ESD Affiliate Council.
ESD's prestigious Ann O. Fletcher Distinguished Service
Award was established in her honor. She joined ESD in
1954.
