What is Engineering SMArT Detroit? Expanding on a successful tradition of supporting youth education in engineering, The Engineering Society of Detroit has developed an exciting program for high school students called Engineering SMArT Detroit. With a real-world application of science, math, architecture and technology, students will learn about energy as it relates to their own school, community and future. The program will engage students to envision and shape their own communities through a new understanding of energy, and will cultivate their desire to be active contributors to the sustainability and vitality of their environment. Through a series of learning modules, students will be introduced to the basics of energy, alternative energies, home energy efficiencies, and the electrical grid, as well as how to do architectural drawings to scale.
What is the purpose of the program?
To provide high school level students with a real-world application of Science, Math, Architecture and Technology
Enable students to understand sustainability and the economics of energy
To excite students with STEM education and career opportunities in engineering
