ANNOUNCEMENT: 2013 Gold Award Winner: Dr. Donald K.  Cohen, President, Michigan Metrology, LLC.

Michigan’s engineering and scientific talent is the envy of the nation. From Henry Ford, Horace Dodge, and William Boeing to Charles Lindbergh, William Hewlett and Elijah McCoy, Michigan is the home of pioneers who have reinvented our world.

Once a year, The Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) and its Affiliate Council pay a special tribute to seasoned and upcoming engineers and scientists, whose work and ideas are shaping the future and leaving an indellible mark on their industries.

This year, ESD and its Affiliate Council have selected Dr. Donald K. Cohen, President of Michigan Metrology, LLC to receive the coveted Gold Award.

Dr. Cohen's background is primarily in the physical sciences with a Bachelor’s and master’s in physics and a PhD in Optical Sciences. Prior to forming Michigan Metrology, Dr. Cohen was vice president of Engineering at WYKO Corporation (now part of Bruker Corporation), developing surface metrology instrumentation. Dr. Cohen is a co-inventor of the technology comprising the NT8000 and has served as Vice Chairman/Chairman of the ANSI/ASME B46.1 Surface Texture Standards committee from 2000-2011.

In addition to Dr. Cohen, dozens of other engineers and scientists will be recognized by their individual societies for their accomplishments.

Engineers will also be invited to participate in the Order of the Engineer Ceremony. The Order was initiated in the United States in 1970 to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer. Any engineer who has graduated from an ABET-accredited engineering program or holds a PE license is eligible to participate in the ceremony.

Join us for this rare opportunity to honor and applaud Michigan’s Best.
