ASM International was formed for the exclusive purpose of advancing and disseminating scientific, engineering and technical knowledge, particularly with respect to the manufacture, processing, characterization, selection, understanding, use and life-cycle of metals and other engineering materials. This is accomplished through education, research and the compilation and dissemination of information, which serves technical and professional needs and interest, thereby benefiting the general public. The Detroit Chapter, like the 96 other ASM Chapters, is built around the needs of people with a direct interest in metals and materials...whether it be production, processing, fabricating, testing, design, application, sales, purchasing, teaching or another related area. Through chapter meetings, ASM brings these many different types of people together so they can discuss their common interests in metals, "talk shop," compare notes, and exchange ideas. Chapter meetings are highlighted by experts who present lectures and report on developments concerning engineering materials, thus advancing the knowledge of metals and materials in a very direct way.
